Most giclèe prints shipped from ColdBrook Studio are made with archival-quality pigment inks on high weight acid-free paper. Mats and foamboard are acid-free as well. UV-blocking acrylic glazing is also used; acrylic is shatter-proof. Together, these things provide a high degree of protection from damage and fading. Environmentsl hazards remain, though. A few simple steps by you can help keep your prints looing new for years to come:
1) Store upright in a cool dry place. Storing flat or next to a heat register can can use the frame or plexiglas to warp, and heat makes colors fade faster. Stacking stuff on top of it can accellerate the warping, and spilled coffee or soda can be catastrophic. Or serendipidous, if you're into that.
2) Do not hang or store where there are prolonged periods of direct sunlight. Even with UV protection, strong sun can cause colors to fade.
3) Avoid hanging in humid spaces like bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture warps frames and mats, and fades colors, too. It can cause foxing and mildew as well.
